Cape Zannamisaki Park

The Zanba Grand Lion was created "to convey the culture of national exchange in Yomitan Village, which prospered through trade with China during the Ryukyu Dynasty.
Completed in 1985, it has been a symbol of the cape along with the Cape Zanbamisaki Lighthouse for more than 30 years. It is said to be the largest lighthouse in Japan, standing 8m75cm tall, which is the same height as the third floor of a building, and 7m80cm long.
Shisa are usually placed to ward off evil spirits, but this giant shisa is facing the direction of China, the country with which it trades.
