Taking on Okinawa's Largest Shipwreck, the "USS Emmons"

The USS Emmons, a massive 106-meter-long sunken ship, lies at a depth of approximately 40 meters off the coast of Kouri Island in northern Okinawa. This is a special diving tour—exclusively for advanced divers—that explores this U.S. Navy destroyer, which sank during World War II.

We'll make stops at the bow, midship, and stern, and take our time exploring the area over the course of a half-day on two boats.

Water depth: 40 meters; a spot with strong currents, reserved for advanced divers only. This tour is available only to divers with 60 or more dives under their belt.

Despite its advancing deterioration, the Emmons still retains its original form. Numerous torpedoes, shells, and other ordnance remain on board, so knowledge and experience in wreck diving are required.

Special note

*Because Emmons is not only deep but also has very strong currents, it is a dive site accessible only to experienced divers. Since countless explosives—including torpedoes (detonators and fuses), gunpowder, explosives, and artillery shells—still remain there, knowledge and training in wreck diving are essential.

*Since Emmons is a site intended for advanced divers, it is available only to repeat customers or those with 60 or more dives. New divers may participate only after completing a check dive. Please plan to participate for at least two days. (We recommend 100 or more dives.)
