本島中部のうるま市にある伊計島は海中道路を渡り、平安座島、宮城島を経て、先端にある島で車で行ける有人の離島です。
家も人口も割と多く約300人ほどが生活しています。島内はサトウキビ畑が広がるのどかな島でこれと言って何もありませんが、それが沖縄の離島、伊計島の魅力でもあります。

伊計島周辺の海はやはり離島というぐらいきれいで、有名な伊計ビーチや大泊ビーチは透明度も高く、地元や観光客に人気のビーチとなっています。
また島の中心部に位置する「仲原遺跡」もう人気スポットで、縄文時代から弥生時代にかけて生活していた住居を復元した遺跡をみることができます。
沖縄の離島には古くからの遺跡など歴史物が色濃く残っている場所が多いので、老若男女問わず楽しめるのも人気のポイントとなっています。
