安慶名城跡とは？歴史と構造

安慶名城跡は、14世紀頃に築かれたと伝わる沖縄本島中部の山城です。自然の断崖を生かした独特の構造が今も残っていますよ。

築城の歴史

安慶名城跡は、14世紀頃にこの地を治めていた安慶名按司（あじ）によって築かれたと伝えられています。

城の北側を流れる天願川は別名「大川」と呼ばれており、そのため安慶名城は「大川城」とも呼ばれてきました。

現在残る石垣の多くは15世紀頃に造られたものとされ、長い年月を経て今なお当時の面影を伝えています。

輪郭式城跡の特徴

安慶名城跡は、外側と内側に二重の石垣をめぐらせた「輪郭式」と呼ばれる珍しい構造をしています。

この形式の城跡は沖縄県内でも現存する唯一の例とされており、歴史的にも貴重な存在なんですよ。

隆起した珊瑚石灰岩の断崖と急斜面を巧みに利用しており、当時の高度な築城技術がうかがえます。

国指定史跡としての価値

安慶名城跡は1972年5月15日に国の史跡に指定され、史跡名勝天然記念物として保護されています。

指定後は保存整備が進められ、案内板や遊歩道、駐車場やトイレなど訪問者向けの設備も整っていますよ。

一方で木々が生い茂り遺構が見えにくい部分もあるため、足元に注意しながら見学するのがおすすめです。

圧巻の石垣と眺望

急な山道を登り岩が重なり合った城門を抜けると、見晴らしのよい城壁の上へたどり着きます。

城壁の高さは最高で10mにも及ぶ場所があり、間近で見ると迫力満点です。

頂上からの眺めはとても良く、下から見上げる石垣もまた違った魅力を感じさせてくれますよ。

安慶名闘牛場

安慶名城跡のある岩山の裏手には、すり鉢状の「安慶名闘牛場」があります。

約3000人を収容できる県内でも有数の規模で、以前は全島闘牛大会などが開催されていました。

近年の闘牛大会は石川多目的ドームで行われていますが、独特の形状は今も一見の価値ありです。

寒緋桜が彩る安慶名中央公園

安慶名城跡一帯は「安慶名中央公園」として整備されており、桜の名所としても知られています。

1月下旬頃には寒緋桜（カンヒザクラ）が咲き誇り、多くの人が訪れる季節になりますよ。

How to Get There by Car

沖縄自動車道の沖縄北ICから車で約30分ほどで安慶名城跡に到着します。

うるま市の中心部に位置しているため、市内観光と合わせて訪れやすい立地ですよ。

カーナビを利用する場合は「うるま市字安慶名1045」を目的地に設定するとスムーズです。

駐車場の台数と利用案内

安慶名中央公園内には駐車場が整備されており、約80台分のスペースが用意されています。

闘牛場や城跡を見学する来場者と共有する駐車場のため、イベント開催時は混雑することもあります。
