Although it’s a tight schedule, you can still have a great time if you limit your visit to Naha City and the central region (Chatan Town) or take a sightseeing bus tour.

Popular destinations include the Kerama Islands (including Tokashiki Island), which can be visited on a day trip by high-speed ferry from Tomari Port in Naha, and Minna Island, which is just a short boat ride from Motobu Town.

A 3-night, 4-day trip is the standard choice. Since frequent travel can be tiring, staying in the same resort area for several nights in a row reduces the burden on parents.

The sea looks its bluest between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. This is the best time to drive across the Kouri Bridge or the Underwater Road.

For stays of 3 nights or more, it’s most efficient to split your time as follows: “1 night in Naha (focusing on the city center or the airport) + 2 nights at a West Coast resort (such as Onna Village).”

If you're looking for a sense of escape, like a private beach, go for a West Coast resort. If you prioritize the convenience of nighttime bar hopping and shopping, choose Naha (around Kokusai Street).

It’s from mid-June to around August. If you visit roadside stations like Kyoda or farmers’ markets, you can buy fresh, delicious fruit.

The souvenir sections at Naha Airport, Kokusai-dori, or large supermarkets (such as San-A) offer a wide variety of items at reasonable prices.

Costs can vary significantly depending on the quality of your accommodations, your mode of transportation, and whether you plan to participate in any activities. Since airfare, lodging, and rental car rates tend to rise during peak season, we recommend comparing options and making reservations well in advance.

Although cashless payments are becoming more common, many traditional Okinawa soba restaurants, local bus routes, and designated driver services still operate on a “cash only” basis.

While ATMs are readily available in Naha, the city center, and major tourist areas, it’s a good idea to have some cash on hand in advance if you’re heading to the natural areas in the north.

While a buffet at a resort hotel is wonderful, booking a one-night stay at an izakaya featuring live sanshin music is a great way to fully experience the authentic Okinawan atmosphere.

People tend to underestimate travel time. It’s best to plan with plenty of time to spare, taking into account the time needed to pick up and return your rental car, morning and evening traffic, and check-in procedures at the airport.
