古代から続く沖縄の歴史
琉球王国の誕生と繁栄

沖縄の歴史は、古代の「グスク時代（城の時代）」にさかのぼります！

集落ごとに築かれたグスク（城）は、のちに琉球王国成立の基盤となりました。やがて複数の勢力が覇権を争う「三山時代」が訪れ、1429年に尚巴志（しょうはし）が三山を統一し、「琉球王国」が誕生しました。

三山時代と統一

14世紀の沖縄は、「北山（ほくざん）」「中山（ちゅうざん）」「南山（なんざん）」の三国に分かれ、それぞれが中国や日本との交易で勢力を伸ばしていました。

最終的に中山の王であった尚巴志が統一を果たし、首里に王都を築いたのが琉球王国の始まりです！この統一により、沖縄は東アジアの貿易拠点として繁栄し、文化的にも飛躍的な発展を遂げました。

首里城と王国文化

首里城は、琉球王国の政治interpoint (interword separation)cultureinterpoint (interword separation)宗教の中心地でした。中国の建築様式を取り入れながらも、朱色の壁や曲線的な装飾など、沖縄独自の美意識が光ります☆

2000年には「琉球王国のグスク及び関連遺産群」としてWorld Heritage (cultural, natural, etc.)に登録され、その象徴として国内外から高い注目を集めています！2019年の火災で主要な建物が焼失しましたが、現在は再建が進められ、2026年の完全復元を目指しています。

中国・日本との交易で発展した
独自の文化と信仰

琉球王国は中国（明・清）との朝貢関係を築きながら、Japanand ... andSoutheast Asiaとも貿易を行いました！その結果、多様な文化が融合し、三線（さんしん）and ... and紅型（びんがた）、琉球舞踊といった独自の伝統芸能が生まれました。

また、自然崇拝に基づく「御嶽（うたき）」信仰やノロ（神女）による祭祀も、琉球文化を語るうえで欠かせない要素です。

沖縄戦で見えた悲劇の歴史
戦争が残した教訓と平和への願い

第二次世界大戦末期、沖縄は日本本土防衛の最前線となり、住民を巻き込んだ壮絶な地上戦が繰り広げられました。この「沖縄戦」では、県民の約4分の1が命を落とし、多くの文化財や街並みも失われました。

戦争の悲惨さを後世に伝えることは、現在の沖縄において大切な使命とされています。

沖縄戦とは？
日本最後の激戦地で起こった出来事

1945年4月、米軍が沖縄本島に上陸。日本軍は南部地域を中心に徹底抗戦しましたが、圧倒的な兵力差の前に多くの民間人が犠牲となりました。特に「集団自決」などの悲劇は、沖縄戦の象徴的な出来事として語り継がれています。

戦跡をめぐる

沖縄戦の記憶を残す場所として有名なのが「ひめゆりの塔」。ここは女子学生が看護要員として動員され、命を落とした地です。

."Peace Memorial Park」は、戦没者の名を刻む「平和の礎」があり、毎年6月23日には慰霊の日の式典が行われます。「旧海軍司令部壕」は、当時の壕をそのまま保存し、過酷な戦況を肌で感じられる場所です。
