Walking through the World Heritage forest felt like an adventure—it was so exciting, lol. The giant banyan trees were incredibly impressive and gave me a real boost of energy, and the guide’s stories were really interesting too! The only thing was, the bugs bothered me a little, so if I’d brought some bug spray, it would’ve been perfect, lol.

In the morning, we hiked upstream along the river to Tara Falls for some river trekking. Walking along the riverbed, which was strewn with boulders, was a great experience for the kids, and jumping into the river and admiring the beauty of the falls were also fun activities. In the afternoon, we went kayaking on the Okubi River, the only place where you can see four different species of mangroves. While getting the hang of paddling, we kayaked to our destination and were able to explore the mangrove forest on foot for the first time, as the water had receded during low tide. We received detailed explanations about the different types of mangroves and the ecology of various creatures, which was very educational. We had so much fun that the kids and I kept getting sidetracked while searching for animals and plants, but that’s one of the benefits of having the tour all to ourselves—they were able to adjust the schedule smoothly. We asked to focus primarily on the mangroves, but I’m told that for those who prefer kayaking, they’ll take you out to the ocean as well. Since the activity takes place at carefully selected spots, the drive there takes a little while, but I think it’s just the right amount of time to rest your tired body. The guide was very attentive, and we had a truly enjoyable time. I highly recommend booking a private tour if you’re traveling with children. I definitely plan to book another tour with Adventure Island next time.
