仲原遺跡の歴史と発見の経緯

仲原遺跡は、もともとサトウキビ畑として使われていた土地でした。

1978年、土地改良事業に伴う事前の発掘調査によって、竪穴式住居跡が発見されたんです。

調査の結果、23棟もの建物遺構が確認されました。

この発見により、それまで不明だった沖縄県の縄文時代晩期のムラの様子が明らかになりました。

沖縄県最大級の竪穴式住居跡

仲原遺跡の竪穴式住居は、地表を隅丸方形に掘り下げ、琉球石灰岩の石垣を壁として組んだ独特の造りが特徴です。

建物は大型で径5〜6メートル、小型で2〜3メートルほどとされ、大型の母屋を中心に小型の建物が配置されていたと考えられています。

沖縄初の復元竪穴住居遺跡としても知られていますよ。

那覇方面から向かう場合は、underwater roadを渡って伊計島へ入るルートが一般的です。

橋を渡った先、サトウキビ畑の中の細い農道沿いに遺跡の案内看板が立っています。

看板を目印に進めば迷わずたどり着けますよ。

駐車場の場所と台数

仲原遺跡には専用の大きな駐車場はなく、農道沿いの林の中に2〜3台程度のスペースがあるのみです。
