Onna Village During Silver Week

青の洞窟で体験ダイビング

Silver Week is a long holiday period that occurs in late September, consisting of a series of public holidays and weekends.

Recently, more and more people have been combining their time off with Silver Week to take an extended vacation. While summer is undoubtedly the most popular time to visit Onna Village, one of Okinawa’s premier resort destinations, Silver Week is also a great time to go.

In this post, we’ll introduce the charms of Onna Village in late September.

The Benefits of Traveling During Silver Week

One of the great things about visiting Onna Village during Silver Week is that travel costs are lower than in the summer.

However, the benefits of traveling during this time of year go beyond just the cost of the trip.

Pleasant Climate and Best Time to Visit

While high temperatures and strong UV rays from the sun are certainly a concern in Onna Village during the summer, visiting during Silver Week in late September allows you to enjoy the atmosphere of late summer. In fact, many repeat visitors consider this late-summer period—Silver Week—to be the best time to visit Onna Village.

It’s still warm enough to spend the whole day in a T-shirt, shorts, and sandals. However, you might feel a bit chilly in air-conditioned rooms or at night.

We recommend bringing long-sleeved shirts and socks just in case.

Even though it’s the end of summer, Okinawa is located at a low latitude, so it’s essential to protect yourself from UV rays. Also, while they’re not very common, you should be prepared for the possibility of typhoons even in late September.

It’s a good idea to bring a raincoat or a waterproof jacket.

I can go on a long trip

By using paid time off and other leave to add a few extra days, Silver Week becomes a long holiday. And as mentioned earlier, one of the appeals of traveling during Silver Week is that travel costs are lower.

That’s why you can plan a longer trip and fully enjoy the resort. Unlike during summer vacation, it’s not overrun with tourists.

The real joy of traveling during Silver Week is being able to take your time and enjoy a trip that suits your own preferences.

You can enjoy a variety of activities

Even though summer is coming to an end, the water is still warm, making this the perfect season to enjoy Onna Village’s many attractions—including its world-class marine activities—and explore a wide variety of things to do.

What sets Onna Village’s marine activities apart is that you can enjoy the ocean not only underwater and on the water’s surface, but also from the air.

Underwater, you can go diving or snorkeling; on the water, you can try stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, or kayaking; and from the air, you can enjoy the view of the ocean while parasailing.

We hope you enjoy your time in Onna Village during Silver Week and make some wonderful memories.

Recommended Activities

There are a variety of recommended activities in Onna Village.

In addition to classic activities like diving and canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding has become popular recently, and the range of activities available continues to grow year by year.

Here, we’ll introduce some of the most popular activities in Onna Village.

diving

青の洞窟で体験ダイビング

You might think you need a license to go diving, but most of the diving in Onna Village consists of introductory dives.

A trial dive is a diving experience designed for beginners, where participants first learn the basics—such as how to use the equipment, safety precautions while diving, and how to equalize ear pressure—and then dive into the ocean accompanied by an instructor or guide. You can participate even without a diving license.

Unlike recreational diving, which requires a license, you can only dive to a depth of 12 meters here. However, the crystal-clear waters offer excellent visibility, allowing you to enjoy a leisurely underwater stroll. If you’re diving in Onna Village, the Blue Cave is definitely a must-see.

Inside the cave, where sunlight streaming in through the entrance reflects off the walls in a blue glow, a breathtaking scene unfolds—one unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

As you dive deeper into the ocean, the way this mysterious blue color grows even deeper is a sight you won’t want to miss.

Of course, it’s not just the Blue Grotto—you can also encounter vibrant coral reefs and plenty of tropical fish at diving spots in the open ocean.

Equipment is available for rent during the tour, so please feel free to join us.

snorkeling

While diving involves going underwater, snorkeling is an activity where you look into the water from the surface.

Since our tours focus on shallow waters, they’re perfect for family trips with young children. Of course, beginners will receive an introductory lesson first, where they’ll learn how to use the equipment.

Since I’ve come all the way to the ocean in Onna Village, I just can’t go home without taking a look underwater.

The crystal-clear waters offer a view all the way to the seabed, where coral reefs dot the landscape and schools of colorful tropical fish swim.

During Silver Week, the water temperature is still warm, so you can really enjoy the summer ocean.

marine sports

シーカヤック

During Silver Week in Onna Village, there are plenty of marine sports to enjoy besides diving and snorkeling.

Popular activities include "marine walks," where participants wear helmets supplied with oxygen to walk along the seabed; canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), which glide across the water; and parasailing, which offers a bird's-eye view of the ocean.

All of our activity tours include introductory sessions for beginners, and you can rent any necessary equipment.

Since you’re here at the beautiful beaches of Onna Village, be sure to enjoy the wide variety of activities available.
