Onna Village’s No. 1 Topographic Spot & Secret Goby Area

At a depth of 24 meters, beneath a vertical cave at a depth of 5 meters—where it’s pitch black directly below—if you swim through a side passage from there, the exit is shaped like Pikachu, as shown in the photo.

At the exit, schools of Ryukyu hatampo fish gather like a curtain—it’s absolutely beautiful.

In the secret goby area, you can find the Yasha goby, the longfin goby, as well as the scallop-horned goby and the scallop-horned gobySP...including the Sirius red goby and many others—there's plenty to see.

Super Drop-off and Coral Reefs

Just above the 5-meter-deep ledge beneath the boat lies the largest field of Acropora corals in the Manza area, and right nearby is a heart-shaped cave and a drop-off that plunges down to 50 meters!

Below that, you’ll find a wealth of extremely rare deep-water fish, including pygmy seahorses, Akebono gobies, striped black-and-white gobies, pink dart gobies, black-striped gobies, and many others.

The Best Goby Spot at Cape Maeda

Coral is beginning to recover on the reef, and species such as the panda daruma goby, members of the Koban goby family, and the large-spotted frogfish are frequently spotted.

In the sandy goby area below, species include the scallop-horned goby, the Yasha goby, the long-finned threadfin goby, the Yanodate goby, and other members of the scallop-horned goby genus,1There are always plenty of gobies and other small fish.

A must-visit spot for goby lovers!

[Blue Cave (Cape Maeda)]

It gets especially crowded during the summer, so I recommend going early in the morning!

The beautiful view of the exit seen from underwater and the beautiful blue of the water's surface as you surface are truly mystical.

Outside the cave, you can enjoy seeing Cape Maeda’s famous swallowfish, as well as wavy angelfish, striped angelfish, damselfish, and various species of butterflyfish.

Terrain with holes and drops & a hotspot for big fish

There are several dive sites at Cape Zanpa, all of which are famous for their dynamic terrain featuring caves and drop-offs—but that’s not all: it’s also the No. 1 spot on the west coast for encountering Napoleon fish!

It’s also famous as a spot for big fish, including blackfin barracuda and schools of eagle rays.

And when it comes to macro photography, you can encounter frilled shrimp, frogfish, and pygmy seahorses.

Macro Life on Sandy Bottoms & Large Colonies of Yubieda Beach Coral

This is Onna Village’s largest colony of Yubieda-hama coral and the village’s premier spot for relaxation.

Down below, this is a spot where you can see plenty of Okinawa’s most abundant Nakamoto’s striped goby, as well as violet boxer shrimp, Sirius red gobies, and orange-spotted clownfish—it’s a spot where you can enjoy a wide variety of marine life.
