マングローブとは『汽水域などに生息する植物』を指しており、比謝川ではオヒルギやメヒルギが自生し、特にメヒルギが多く見られます。

環境に合わせて工夫をしながら命をつないでいる、とてもユニークなパイオニア植物です。小規模なマングローブ地帯ですが、生命の神秘がたくさん詰まっています。
